Useful numbers

Emergency numbers

If you are facing an emergency, get in touch with the relevant national emergency numbers:

  • Call 118 : Health emergency
  • Call 113 : Police
  • Call 115 : Fire Brigade

If you live in Friuli Venezia Giulia, Lazio, Liguria, Lombardia, Piemonte, Sicilia, Valle d'Aosta and in Trentino-Alto-Adige you can also:

  • Call 112 : Emergency response
  • Download the free 112 app, once on the homepage, select the Android, the Microsoft or IOs option on the top right of the website.

112 is also the single European emergency number. However, all the other emergency service numbers indicated below remain active throughout the national territory.

These numbers are free of charge and operate 24 hours a day.

Gender-based violence or stalking

Gender-based violence is any harmful act perpetrated against the person’s will based on the differences between males and females. It includes sexual, physical, psychological and economic violence.

If you witness or are survivor of gender-based violence or stalking, you can get in touch with the National anti-violence and stalking helpline:

  • Call 1522
  • Visit https://www.1522.eu/ to chat with an operator – once on the homepage, hit the ‘open chat’ button.
  • Download the free 1522 app – once on the homepage, select the Android or IOs option on the top right of the website.
  • Find a local association where to seek physical support here

The helpline is free of charge and active 24 hours a day, every day of the year. The helpline is available in the following languages: Italian, English, French, Spanish and Arabic.

A specialized operator will direct you to local services for survivors or to safe houses for women.

Children and minors

Save the Children

If you are a child or a minor and you need legal counseling, psychological support, help or simple advice, you can contact Save the Children Helpline:

  • Call 800141016 (from all mobile operators)
  • Call +393512202016 (from Lyca Mobile numbers)

The helpline is free of charge and active from Monday to Friday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The helpline is available in the following languages: Italian, Arabic, English, French, Tigrinya, Somali and Francophone sub-Saharan dialects.

A specialized operator will direct you to the different services that are available to child and minor migrants, from cultural mediation to legal assistance, from psychological support to the activation of social assistance channels.

Human trafficking and labour exploitation

Human trafficking is the recruitment, transportation and reception of people by improper means such as force, fraud, or deception, with the aim of exploiting them.

Labour exploitation is the act of forcing a person, through violence or threat, to carry out work without or with disproportionate remuneration.

If you are a victim of trafficking or labour exploitation, or if you want to report a related crime, you can contact the National anti-trafficking helpline:

The helpline is free of charge and active 24 hours a day, every day of the year. The helpline is available in the following languages: English, Spanish, Albanian, Romanian, Russian, Moldovan, Ukrainian, Nigerian, Chinese, Polish, Portuguese and Arabic.

A specialized operator will provide you support and help you find local associations where to seek physical support.

Gangmastering and labour exploitation in farming

If you are a victim or potential victim of gangmastering and labour exploitation in one of the five regions in southern Italy (Basilicata, Calabria, Campania, Puglia and Sicily), you can contact the anti-gangmastering help desk:

The help desk is active from Monday to Friday, from 9:30 am to 6 pm. The service is available in the following languages: English, French, Arabic, Pidgin, Edo/Bini, Wolof, Mandinka, Fula, Pular, plus others upon request.

A specialized operator will provide you legal, trade union and administrative support.

LGBTQI+ community

If you are a member of the LGBTQI+ community and you need assistance, orientation and support you can:

A specialized operator will support you remotely or help you find local associations where to seek physical support.

Here you can also find a map of many associations and projects specialized with issues related to gender, sexuality and migration. They can also help you to apply for international protection.

Migra Arcigay

If you are a member of the LGBTQI+ community and you need assistance, orientation and legal support you can:

Psycho-social support

If you need psychological support or you need to talk with someone, you can get in touch with Ipso Care:

Discrimination

UNAR

If you witness or if you are target of any kind of discrimination, you can get in touch with the national anti-discrimination contact center:

The helpline is free of charge and active from Monday to Friday, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

A specialized operator will offer you information, guidance and support to report or act discriminatory behaviours.

ASGI

If you witness or if you are discriminated by institutions (for example if you are not allowed to access a public service or if you are denied a right), you can contact ASGI - Anti-discrimination service:

The service monitors discriminatory incidents and can provide you with legal assistance. It is available in Italian, English and French.

Orientation and legal help

Diaconia Valdese

If you need help with legal orientation - including sanatoria, Dublin procedures, bonuses and benefits, administrative procedures - you can get in touch with Diaconia Valdese-Community Centres:

The helpline is free of charge and active from Monday to Friday, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The helpline is available in Italian and English.

A specialized operator will help you by phone or will direct you to one of the Diaconia Valdese physical helpdesks across Italy.

UNHCR - ARCI

If you need information regarding reception, healthcare, administrative procedures, legal assistance, and orientation, you can get in touch with the helpline for Applicants and Beneficiaries of International and Humanitarian Protection run by UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees) and ARCI (Associazione Ricreativa e Culturale Italiana):

Ufficio postale

For many procedures you will need to go to any post office, or "ufficio postale" in Italian.
